MANILA — Authorities transferred last night President Ferdinand Marcos’ first cousin from a government hospital to a jail facility, complying with an anti-corruption court’s commitment order while facing plunder charges.
Leyte First District Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, was brought to the infirmary of the Quezon City jail in Payatas for further observation after he was discharged from the Philippine General Hospital.
Romualdez spent a weekend at the government hospital for a medical check-up to determine his condition after he was ordered arrested in connection with 7.44 billion pesos in kickbacks in infrastructure projects from 2023 to 2025.
Romualdez’ physicians told the court he cannot be moved or transferred from a private hospital because of a risk of a heart attack
However, doctors at PGH found that he was clinically stable and could now be discharged. A medical team that examined the lawmaker ruled that confinement is not necessary, provided that medical care is assured.
