Philippines donates generator sets to Ukraine

A private business group from the Philippines donated 40 6-kw generator sets to Ukraine as part of humanitarian efforts to help civilians affected by the five-year conflict with Russia.

MANILA — A private business group from the Philippines donated 40 6-kw generator sets to Ukraine as part of humanitarian efforts to help civilians affected by the five-year conflict with Russia.

In a statement, the European Union delegation in Manila said a Philippine business group, Highball Traders Inc, donated 40 generator sets after Ukrainian ambassador Yulia Fedic held talks with Senator Erwin Tulfo in February.

The generator sets will be used for civilian purposes to heat and provide electricity in Ukraine, as Russian forces target power stations. (Also read: PH, Ukraine forge stronger alliance amid rising global security threats)

The equipment was transported from the Philippines to the Port of Gdansk in Poland and subsequently delivered to Ukraine through the rescEU Donations Scheme of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, with the support of Poland’s Governmental Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS).

“This assistance is much more than 40 generators,” the EU delegation said in a statement. “It is a tangible expression of the solidarity of the people of the Philippines with the people of Ukraine.”

As Russia continues its deliberate attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the Philippine private group’s donation will help strengthen the energy resilience of Ukrainian civilian communities and ensure the continuity of essential services, the EU delegation said.
