MANILA —Vice President Sara Duterte and her lawyer husband hid more than 800 million pesos in cash and other assets in her annual statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN), a financial expert witness told the Senate impeachment court.
Lawyer Alexander Cabrera prepared several matrices to show how Duterte and Manases Carpio underdeclared their personal wealth from 2007 to 2025. (Also read: Vice President and her husband have 190 million pesos cumulative deposits in eight banks)
Cabrera concluded the vice president violated the 1987 Constitution every time she misdeclared her wealth in her SALN since becoming vice president in 2022.
Prosecutors said it was an impeachable offense and the Senate Court must find her guilty, remove her from office, and prohibit her from seeking any public office.
Based on Cabrera’s tabulation, Duterte had accumulated 817.87 million in assets from 2022 to 2025, which she did not declare on her SALN.
Congressman and public prosecutor Chel Diokno presented Cabrera, a certified public accountant and a lawyer, as an expert witness to tie together testimonies from the BIR, banks, and insurance companies.
Earlier in the day, an official from the internal revenue agency told the court that Duterte got a salary from the Davao City government in 2023 when she was already vice president. (Also read: Anti-Money Laundering Council flags Vice President’s bank transactions)
